I can only hope these bills do not pass. I have nothing against stopping online piracy but these bills are clearly dangerous. I find it funny though that Chis Dodd say that the internet blackouts are sees only a "gimmick," a "stunt," "hyperbole," "a dangerous and troubling development," an "irresponsible response," and an "abuse of power."
I dont think you will find too many people arguing that piracy is not a problem. But giving the companies and government THIS much power is just .. insane. If you want that type of control, we have plenty examples of countries that do just that.

Now tell me all about your pain Down to the detail
My take on the whole thing is that no music artist has recorded anything worth paying for since the invention of the mp3
Haha beast, that's a liiiitle bleak and the issue goes way past song licensing and into full website censorship, but I do agree that a lot of the bands that back the RIAA's (Recording Industry Association of America) involvement are the same d-bag major label groups that shut down Napster.
You know what? A though just occurred to me, this will not be the last time we see some company or industry go all out to change/censor or kill the internet. Just look at last year when the telecommunication company's in Canada and the US attempted their own little schemes, like creating a "fast lane" basically forcing all websites to become pay sites in the US, or UBB in Canada. This year it's worse and it's a more vicious attack on the internet industry. If these bills do not pass what's next years attack going to look like? Or are they just going to do what Canadian law makers do, change the name of the bill re-word it (but basically it stills says the same things) and try to push it through again and again until it finally gets past?
Lets hope not. Anyway that's just my two copper on the subject.
so where do they stand are the bills die or they still going throw?

On January 20, 2012, Rep. Lamar Smith postponed plans to draft the bill, saying "The committee remains committed to finding a solution to the problem of online piracy that protects American intellectual property and innovation ... The House Judiciary Committee will postpone consideration of the legislation until there is wider agreement on a solution."
